John "Ted" Larson
John "Ted" Larson was an only child born on December 12, 1927 in Provost to Elmer and Marcella Larson. As a young man he was active in scouts, air cadets, baseball and hockey. Around the age of 15 he started working with his father Elmer and Grand Father Fred at Larson’s Hardware.
Ted was presented his “golden 50yr Hammer” before his first retirement. Ted’s father Elmer was also a recipient of this hammer. Over the years Ted was active in the Board of Trade, Kinsmen, volunteer fire department, Masonic Lodge and also served on various boards of the United Church. There were many local projects throughout the years which he was involved with.
On September 7, 1949 Ted married his high school sweet heart Jean Fleming. To this union they had three children, Rick, Rod and Lori Jean. These children gave them eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Ted and Jean were active travellers and enjoyed many years travelling. After Jean’s passing Ted returned back to the store and could always be found puttering around and re-organizing stock. 60 plus years of Hardware knowledge is hard to replace. He could be found for a couple of hours a day, a few days a week at the store until his 90th birthday. He then said “l officially retire this time.”
He moved to the Provost Long Term Care in the spring of 2018 and was very appreciative of the staff and excellent care he received until his passing on August 13, 2018.
