Obituary of Leona Walz

Leona Regina was born on February 25, 1938, to Anton and Fanny (Fleck) Wetzstein in Bodo, Alberta. She grew up on the family homestead south of Bodo and was the third of eight children.

Leona attended grades 1 through 9 at Zering Country School, one mile south of the family farm. She then attended grade 10 in Consort, Alberta and her final year of schooling were at St Thomas Aquinas School in Provost, Alberta.

Leona then went on to teach school back at Zering Country School for two years. Her next work endeavor was a job in Provost, working at the CIBC bank.

She married Welndelin Walz on October 3, 1961, at the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Bodo. By the spring of 1962, Wendelin and Leona moved to the Walz homestead, after purchasing the homestead from the family.

Leona passed away on February 26, 2025, at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 87 years.

Leona leaves to mourn her children, Mervin (Lisa) and their children, Garrett and Mckenna (Kelly) with great grandchild, Rome; Ervin and his children, Shelby (François), Corey (Nicole) with great grandchildren, Ruger and Regan; Garry and his children, Brittney (Cole), Gavin (Elicia), Michelle (Dylan).

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Wendelin; parents, Anton and Fanny Wetzstein; and her brothers.

 

A funeral service will be held for Leona and Wendelin on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Macklin, Saskatchewan with Father Santhosh Thekkekulam officiating. Interment to follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Macklin, Saskatchewan. If travelling from Alberta, please allow for one hour time change.
