Obituary of Gordon Leo Kloberdanz

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Leo Kloberdanz, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 9, 2025, at the age of 84. Gordon was born on May 24, 1940, in Provost, Alberta, to Clemence and Anne Kloberdanz. The eldest of eight children, Gordon exuded the qualities of a loving son and a steadfast older brother. He was strong, compassionate, intelligent, gentle of spirit, and humble to the very core.

Gordon attended Kilo School for nine years before choosing to dedicate himself to the family farm. After the passing of his father, Clemence, Gordon became the center and head of the family. Always the one with the calmest demeanor and level-headed approach, Gordon took on the responsibility of managing the farm, with the help of his younger brother Albert. He also cared for his mother, Anne, and Uncle Joseph until their passing. Later in life, Gordon extended his loving care to his brothers, Albert and Larry, who predeceased him.

Although Gordon never married, he had two great loves in his life: animals and music. Gordon could never stand to see an animal in pain or go hungry. He opened his heart and home to many stray cats from neighboring farms, often the ones lucky enough to survive the fields of coyotes. He would feed them and, at times, adopt them into his home as beloved companions. Many cats owe their lives to Gordon's kind heart, and many found love and safety in his care.

Gordon’s other passion was music. A talented musician from a young age, Gordon could play nearly any instrument you could imagine, but his favorite was the fiddle. He loved to share his music with family and friends, joining local bands and performing at dances and gun shows. He also played for residents at the nursing home and Hillcrest Lodge, where his music brought joy to many.

Gordon is survived by his loving sisters, Elsie Wotschell, Carol Knorr, Linda (Melfort) Weinmeyer, and sister-in-law Arlene Kloberdanz; and brother in law, Gerry Dyck; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Clemence and Anne, his sisters Marlene and Ann, and his brothers Albert and Larry, as well as his brothers-in-law Walter Meier, Adam Wotschell, and John Knorr.

A Vigil Service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, words of remembrance will begin at 10:20 a.m., with the Rite of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Both services will take place at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Provost, Alberta with Father Christopher Selvaraj officiating. Interment to follow at the Provost Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Provost Cemetery or Provost Long Term Card – Recreation Fund.

Gordon's legacy of kindness, love for animals, and music will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of crossing his path.
