Obituary of Marj Martin

Marjorie started life in Buffalo View District with Tom, Matilda and big brothers, Arnold and Percy.

In 1937 she moved to Custer District and attended school until grade 8.  She rode the bus to Czar for grades 9-12. After high school she worked for five years in Provost.  Three years at Thorp’s Drug Store and two years at the Post Office.

Marj and Jim were married July 9, 1953.  Jim was a tool push for Loffland Bros and they lived in various places in Alberta and Saskatchewan. To this union, five children were born: Dale, Vicky, Lee, and the two little ones, Lori and Glenn. In 1959, the family moved back to the Motley Farm north of Czar and worked for Motley Bros.  In 1963, they moved into Czar and purchased the Imperial Oil Bulk Station and worked until retirement.

Jim passed away in 1985 and Marj moved to Provost in 1992. Marj met Ed Wangler at a solo dance, and they spent 20 years together until Ed moved to B.C.

Marj was a leader in Girl Guides, played and coached softball, curled in bonspiels, served on the Lake Association and various other committees and volunteer groups.

Majorie Martha Motley was born to Tom and Matilda in Wainwright on August 1, 1932, and passed away on April 12, 2025 in Provost at the age of 92 years.

Marjorie leaves to mourn her children, Dale, Vicky (Dale) Downing, Lee (Brenda), Lori (Darren ⴕ) Morrison, and Glenn (Loralie); grandchildren: Rhdonda (Wayne), Cori (Blair), Jill (AJ), Clay, Dayle, Dylan, Travis (Stacy), Riley (Jessie), Logan (Camillia),  James, Calvin, and Stefanie; great grandchildren, Clark, Ella, Charlie, Hanley, Andries, Alex, Miller, Tristen, Wyatt, Abigail, Casey, Max, Benjamin, Sofia and Carla; sisters-in-law, Velma and Jean Motley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many, many friends.

Marj was predeceased by her husband, Jim; parents, Tom and Matilda; father-in-law, JC Martin; brothers, Arnold and Percy Motley; brother-in-law, John Martin; sister-in-law, Marg Martin; and son in law, Darren Morrison.

Family and friends are invited to join on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Czar Cultural & Rec Centre for celebration of Marj’s life. Following the service, a private family interment will take place at the Czar Cemetery. Please stay and join with the family for a time of fellowship, lunch, refreshments and fireball here in the hall after the farewell service.
