Obituary of Louise Elizabeth Paré
Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise Elizabeth Paré (Petrie) was born on July 9, 1960, to Mavis and Jim Petrie. Just a few years later, she became big sister to brothers Danny (1962) and Rod (1963).
Louise passed peacefully at the Paré family home near Chauvin, Alberta, on Sunday, August 31, following a short but courageous battle with ALS.
She is survived by her husband, Don, their three children, and nine grandchildren – all of whom reside in the Chauvin area.

After high school, Louise took her farm-kid diligence to her first job at the bank on Main Street, where she worked for a short while before marrying local farm boy, Don Paré, in 1981.
They made a modest start in a quaint two-bedroom farmhouse, but even then, Louise had a vision for what her home and family would become. For a time, the only things that received more care and attention than her beloved yard and garden were her three small children.
Louise also had a sharp mind for business. For many years, she and Don operated a small oilfield contracting company, which eventually helped them fulfill her dream of moving their young family into her carefully designed ‘forever home’ in 1991 – a white farmhouse that stands northwest of Chauvin, surrounded by Louise’s masterful landscaping handiwork. One of her greatest pleasures was hosting friends and family for holiday dinners, backyard barbecues, or drop-in coffee chats.
In addition to the pride and care she poured into her family and home, Louise was deeply dedicated to the Chauvin community, volunteering for many local initiatives and giving generously, particularly when it meant creating opportunities for youth.
When she became a grandmother, Louise entered a special class all her own. Rarely a day went by when one or more grandkids weren’t dropped off at her house. When exhausted parents needed a little break, the first call was to Louise. She delighted in every aspect of the grandma experience – teaching them about rural life and social graces, reading bedtime stories, or gently guiding them through life’s many little challenges. No matter the circumstances, when a grandchild walked through the front door, Louise dropped everything to give them her full attention.
Among those who knew her, Louise will be remembered as a woman who carried herself with tremendous grace and dignity – an authentically warm and sparkling presence. Whether setting out harvest meals in the field, digging potatoes from her garden, or twirling across a crowded dance floor, she brought light and beauty to every scene.
Her smile, her compassion, and her wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sacred Heart Parish, to support upkeep of the church, or to the Chauvin Museum Society, which works diligently to preserve the history of the community Louise held so dear.
