John Joseph Kloberdanz
January 29, 1932 – August 31, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Joseph Kloberdanz on August 31, 2025, at the age of 93.
John was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a lifelong farmer whose strength and perseverance helped shape the land he loved. A true pioneer in both spirit and work, he built a life rooted in family, community, and hard work.
Born on January 29, 1932, to John and Mary Kloberdanz on their farm near Bodo, John was joined two years later by his sister Marion, born on the same day. At age eleven, the family moved to a farm west of Kirriemuir, where John would spend most of his life—living, farming, and raising a family—until his move to the Provost Long Term Care Facility in later years.
John took over the family farm following his father’s unexpected passing. In 1968, he married Faye, the girl next door. For 57 years, where you saw one, you saw the other. They welcomed their daughter Jennifer in 1970, and their son Zane in 1972. John was especially delighted when grandchildren began arriving in 2001.
Committed to his community, John served on numerous boards and committees over the years, including the KAC Home and School, KAC Agricultural Society, and the Dry Country Gas Co-op, where he was a founding director, and the Rate Payers Association. He also worked as a local road foreman, served as an Alberta Wheat Pool delegate, and later held several roles with the Prairie Association for Water Management.
John loved a good visit. He took a genuine interest in people, enjoyed sharing stories, and never passed up a chance for a thoughtful conversation—or a good laugh.
He was the kind of man who believed in doing what was right, not what was easy. Possibility and curiosity drove him, whether in farming, politics, or everyday life. He was never afraid to try something new—switching from horses to tractors, researching industrial hemp, helping build grassroots organizations, or buying his first computer at 65.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Faye; daughter Jennifer (Sean) McCormick and daughter Ashlyn; son Zane (partner, Christine) and children Erika, Samantha, Ayilet, Jackson, and Elijah. He is also survived by his sister Marion, brothers-in-law Gary (Joy) Mouly and Brien (Elaine) Mouly, sisters-in-law Carol (Harry) McIntosh and Marcella (Perry) Thomas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Kloberdanz; parents-in-law Rene and Bernece Mouly; brother-in-law Roy; sister-in-law Shirley; and daughter-in-law Janelle.
A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kirriemuir Community Hall, with interment to follow at the Kirriemuir Cemetery. A live stream of John's funeral will be available through the GFH Website.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kirriemuir Community Association or the Altario School.
