We met Ev and Linda in 1989 when we moved to Macklin. I worked with Linda at CIBC. Our families spent lots of fun evenings together usually at their house in Evesham and later in Macklin playing cards and telling stories. I imagine you have all heard the stories of him being struck by lightning twice! It should not have been funny but Ev was hilarious …I remember my face hurting from laughing so much. His dry sense of humour and wittiness kept us in stitches all night long. He was definitely the life of our CIBC Christmas parties!
Daryl got Ev into golfing which was another fun event with Ev. Then we bought our fishing camp in 2000 and there was limited time left for them to golf after our camp closed each September. I guess Ev never golfed again after we moved even though he quite enjoyed it.
After we moved to Medicine Hat in 2005 we never saw them much again.
Unfortunately geography eliminates the amount you see the people who you love to be around. After we sold our fishing camp we tried to reconnect with them when we went to the Bones Tournament. It was then that we learned that Linda had passed. We were devastated. The last visit we had with Ev was 2023 at the Bones Tournament. It was great just like no time had passed at all.
Well Ev I am sure your spirit has now reunited with your beloved soulmate. And your body now lies in a place where you spent countless hours grave digging with your fellow volunteers where I’m sure there was a few laughs even in that situation. We were having one of our evening visits and Ev said he had to get up early to dig graves. Well…we thought this was one of his little jokes…who digs graves by hand this day and age and especially when it’s 20 below! But we learned from Ev that for the citizens of Evesham it became a tradition and a gesture of respect.
Tyler, Leslie and Jason…we are so sorry for your loss. We loved your parents..sorry you had to listen to us partying back in the day! It must’ve been so loud and annoying ..but we would give anything to have those evenings to do all over again.
Sincere regards,
Faye & Daryl

Uncle Ev had a way of making everyone in the room feel better, just by being in it. I feel so blessed that Dara got to meet her great “Unca” and know even a little of the love and laughter he carried so easily. He was the anchor of the “worst bones team around,” but in truth, he was the anchor of so much more—our family, our laughter, and our hearts. His steady presence and kindness will be missed. ❤️
