Obituary of Evangeline Theresa German

Please share a memory of Evangeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evangeline Theresa German, affectionately known as Vangie, was born on April 27, 1936, in Macklin, Saskatchewan. She was the ninth of twelve children welcomed into the loving and lively home of Nicholas and Rose Heffner, growing up and attending school in the St. Donatus area.

On August 13, 1966, Vangie married the love of her life, Tony German. She had worked as a cashier for 13 years before dedicating herself full time to supporting Tony and his brother Herman when they took over the family farm. In her own humble words, Vangie “did a little bit of everything but not much of anything,” though those who knew her understood just how essential she truly was. She had a fondness for collecting blown glass and cookbooks - small joys that reflected her appreciation for beauty and home.

In 2004, Tony and Vangie retired to Luseland, where she continued to live her faith with quiet strength and devotion. She attended church faithfully and was always ready with a warm meal or homemade treats for the many relatives, friends and neighbours who stopped by. Her weekly card games with her close circle in town became cherished moments of laughter and companionship.

With Tony at her side, Vangie passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, at the Kerrobert and District Health Centre in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, at the age of 89 years.

She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her husband of 59 years, Tony; her brother-in-law Herman; and her many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Vangie was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings: Regina (Peter), Euphrasia (Peter), Peter (Phyllis), George (Annette) Joseph (Kay), Zita (Wendelin), Nick (Marie), Elizabeth (Alec), Loretta (Gabe), AnnRose (Peter), and Jack (Evy). As well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Vigil Service for Vangie will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., followed by The Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Both services will take place at St. Eugene de Mazenod Roman Catholic Church in Luseland, Saskatchewan, with Father Rinesh Menambadath Chacko, VC officiating. Interment will follow at the Luseland Cemetery.

For those unable to attend, Vangie's service will be livestreamed and accessible through the GFH website at the time of the service.
