James Leslie Hartrick
June 29, 1945 – December 29, 2025
James “Jim” Leslie Hartrick was called to his Heavenly home by his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2025, at the age of 80.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. He will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren: Tara Hergott (David) and their children Evan (Macy) and Jaina; Kristin Riehl and her daughter Ava; Shannon Critchley (Sterling) and their children Ryder, Madden, and Piper; and Shawn Hartrick (Aleisha) and their children Prentiss, Vaida, and Marah. Jim also leaves behind many beloved grand-dogs, grand-horses, grand-cats, and even chickens, all of which brought him great joy.
Jim lived a life defined by hard work, honesty, and deep devotion to his family. He dedicated his entire career to the oil and gas industry, spending his working life with the same company and eventually becoming part owner. He retired still deeply in love with his work, a testament to his loyalty, work ethic, and pride in what he built.
Even in retirement, Jim continued to live fully. He spent meaningful winters in Arizona, explored Canada’s West Country, enjoyed many camping trips, and rarely missed his grandchildren’s activities. Countless hours were spent on the farm mowing grass, gardening, and watching animals and children run free. In 2021, Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream when he built The Old Hartrick’s Cabin.
Jim often said he had lived a wonderful life, and he truly did. He lived unapologetically and honestly, staying true to himself and his values. His faith was carried quietly, guiding him with humility, gratitude, and strength.
Above all else, Jim cherished his family beyond measure. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud papa whose steady presence and unwavering support shaped generations.
He leaves behind a legacy of strength, integrity, and deep love. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
A funeral service for Jim will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Daystar Church in Leduc, Alberta with Pastor Tim Richholt officiating. Following the service, family and friends are invited to recollect in the relationships attached to Jim's life for a time of fellowship and refreshments in the church hall.
