Obituary of John Roy Stevens

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of John Roy Stevens announce his passing at Provost Health Centre - Long Term Care, on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

John was born on March 3, 1933, to Herbert and Mildred (nee Thompson) Stevens, at Rosetown hospital, Saskatchewan. His childhood was spent growing up on a farm north of Fiske, Saskatchewan, with his eight brothers and sisters. John moved to the Macklin area in 1953, and a few years later to Provost where he remained. His life's work began as a farmhand in the Macklin and Provost areas and then proceeded to driving professionally for a living - he could drive anything from a school bus to a cattle liner to a petroleum truck. He took pride in his ultimate job delivering fuel to farms and oil sites for UFA (Syverson's Petroleum) for a few decades until his retirement. A great lover of animals, he made friends with many farm dogs during his time driving for UFA. In later years, he was known around town for his evening walks with a cat affectionately trailing after him.

John is survived, and lovingly remembered, by his wife of 41 years, Madaline; daughter, Marilyn (Jason Lemmons); sisters, Eileen Ruthven and Edna Clark; brother, Norman Stevens; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Kelsch and Agatha Kelsch; and many treasured nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Mildred; sister and brother-in-law Violet and Albert Lindoff; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Joe Kilford; brother and sister-in-law, Willis and Vera Stevens; brother and sister-in-law, Earl "Bob" and Helen Stevens; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Margaret Stevens; brothers-in-law, George Ruthven and Herb Clark; parents-in-law, Emmanuel and Rose Kloberdanz; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn (nee Kloberdanz) and John Pavka; and brothers-in-law, Otto Kelsch and Edwin Kelsch.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Central Lutheran Church in Provost, Alberta with Pastor Paul McCormick officiating. Interment to follow at Provost cemetery.
