Obituary of Dennis Herbert Vert

Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dennis Herbert Vert was born on September 1, 1933, in Consort, Alberta, to Luther and Dorothy Vert. He was the oldest of a set of twins, alongside his brother Dave, and grew up with his siblings Joyce, Glen, Melvin, and Violet.

Dennis passed away peacefully at the Provost Long Term Care Centre on June 25, 2026, at the age of 92 years. He had been a resident there since breaking his hip on New Year's Day, 2026. The staff enjoyed having Dennis in their care, remembering him as a kind, pleasant man who loved to visit with everyone.

Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Bonnie (Brett); his grandchildren, Ryan (Robyn), Cassie (Ryan), Connor, and Emilee (Ali); and his great-grandchildren, Arianna, Finnley, Piper, Nora, and Ava. He is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Dehlia), Joyce (Ilef), Glen (Harriet), and Melvin, along with numerous extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean, in 2000; his sister-in-law, Marg, in 2019; and his sister, Violet, in 2024.

Dennis was raised in the Kirriemuir area and attended Dry Lake School, a one-room schoolhouse, until Grade 8. He then left school to help his family on the farm. In 1959, Dennis purchased his own farm, beginning a lifetime devoted to agriculture.

In 1971, Dennis married Jean Plested, who had a young daughter, Bonnie. He proudly adopted Bonnie and loved her as his own. Farming was more than a career for Dennis, it was a way of life. Even after Jean's passing in 2000, he continued grain farming until retiring approximately seven years ago. Though he eventually stepped away from grain farming, he kept a small herd of cattle for a few more years before fully retiring around 2021.

Retirement suited Dennis well. He enjoyed puttering around the farm, relaxing in his favourite chair, stopping by the Kirriemuir General Store for tea, and spending many mornings sharing coffee and conversation with Glen.

A funeral service will be held at a later date, please check back later for more details.
