Ruth and family, my deepest condolences. I was so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for Rich at the Provost News, when I was in high school. Rich was a wonderful boss - kind, patient, funny, smart - and he always greeted everyone with a smile. I learned a lot about professionalism, customer service, community service, work ethic, honesty, and of course, the newspaper business from Rich (and Carol Murray, the office manager). Those were happy, formative years for me, and I will always remember my time there with gratitude and fondness. Rich was a good man. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Russ and I want to extend our heartfelt condolences in the loss of Rich. We have a long history with the Holmes family - first of all with the fact that the Provost News was directly across the street from Len's Bakery (later Provost Bakery Ltd.) and Dad placed weekly ads, as did I, when I became the baker. I have memories of going to PHS with both Rich and Roger. And then, in 1973, Russ came to Provost to work as a printer at the Provost News so also became acquainted with Rich and the rest of the family. I have two things that remind me of Rich. One is a thermal blanket, a wedding gift from Rich, that lays at the foot of our bed for when I need another layer, and one is a book he gave me, "1984" in which there is a Christmas card he signed, "Love Rich." We are both so very sorry for your loss, and pray for strength day by day for all who now need to figure out how to live with a big hole in their hearts.

So sad to loose such a long time friend, we go back to high school so the memories are many. We will savour those memories of our crazy times and always you will be with us. Our condolences to Ruth and family and we pray that you will reminisce about your wonderful husband and father with a smile on your face after the tears are spent. Ruth and family: We are saddened to hear of Rich's passing. He truly cared about people and went out of his way to acknowledge, thank and praise others. When each of my parents passed away, Rich made sure to send us a card with a personal and heartfelt note enclosed. This meant a lot to us in our time of grief. My dad was a correspondent for "The News" for many years and he really liked Richard and always spoke very highly of him. Take comfort knowing that he is leaving such a great legacy, especially in his family, but also in being a historian and chronicler of all that happens in and around Provost throughout his career with The Provost News. From visits to The Provost News to do the paper drop off for printing each week, and of course seeing you all at the yearly Provost Music Festival.
