FANNING, Phillip Darrell
of Pictou, Nova Scotia & Fort McMurray, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Phillip “Darrell” Fanning.
Darrell passed away on February 2, 2024 at his home in Fort McMurray, Alberta at the age of 55 years.
Darrell was born on June 2, 1968 in Pictou, Nova Scotia and grew up on Maple Street.
As a young man he sailed on the Northumberland Strait aboard the “Sunburst”. Darrell then pursued his dream and followed in his father’s footsteps with his trucking career. This path took Darrell all across Canada and the US; there was no greater joy for Darrell.
Darrell was employed with Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. in Fort McMurray, Alberta. In previous years, he worked for Connors Transfer Ltd. in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Brookville Transport in Saint John, New Brunswick. He also did some auto-body repairs at Kustom Truck Painting Ltd. in Salisbury, New Brunswick.
Darrell was a hard worker and loved his time off; baseball cap on, coffee nearby, eyes on the road and fingers tapping. In his free time, he built an extensive collection of model cars, trucks and boats. He never forgot his roots and always found his way back home to his family.
He is survived by his parents, Phillip Fanning (Claudette), Frances Fanning (Bernie); his siblings, Sherry (John), Johnny, Cindy Lee, Jimmy (Sherry) and his step-siblings; Leanne, Monica (Corwin) and Warren. He has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss his quiet soul.
Cremation has taken place and we will have a Celebration of Darrell’s Life in Pictou, Nova Scotia at a later time.
Memorial Donations in Darrell’s memory can be made to Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Heart Association.
Forever In Our Hearts.
