Obituary of George Alexander Kohlman

George Alexander Kohlman was born on October 24, 1935, to Alex and Anne (Weinkauf) Kohlman.

He was the oldest son in a family of 15 (Give or take!).  Dad grew up on the family farm in the Grosswerder Area.

Despite only having a grade 8 education from Palm School, dad was considered a jack-of-all-trades just like his father. George married Theresa (Stang) on April 9, 1958.  In his words, his wedding day was like winning the lottery. His first job was working for Federal Grain which became Sask Wheat Pool.  He worked for the Pool until he retired at the age of 58.  While working for the Pool, George also farmed until he decided to take life slower and rent out the land.

Dad loved all sports, especially watching his girls play! – Haha. Dad played hockey and curled, but his real love was baseball! He played ball his whole life and when he couldn’t play anymore, he coached.  Dad was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, and the following year he was inducted again with all his Kohlman brothers.

Dad was also an avid hunter made even better because Mom had mastered the art of cooking wild game!

Even as a young married couple Mom and Dad enjoyed having family and friends over for a good card game.  To this day Dad won way more games than he lost, especially at Crib!

Surrounded by the love of his family, dad passed away on April 16, 2024 at the Provost Health Centre Long Term Care at the age of 88 years.

George and Theresa were married 60 wonderful years until Theresa’s passing on June 4, 2018. They were blessed with 11 children, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 22, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Macklin, Saskatchewan with Father Santhosh Thekkekulam officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery.

George's service will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. The livestream will be available through the GFH website under George's obituary at the time of the service.
