Robert Scheck

Obituary of Robert James Scheck

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert was born on May 5, 1958, the fourth of seven children to John and Martha Scheck at Bodo, Alberta. He went to school in Bodo from grades one to nine and attended Saint Thomas Aquinas high school in Provost. After he graduated from grade 12 he took over the family farm at Bodo.

Robert enjoyed the simple things that life had to offer. He was never in a hurry. He loved listening to music, and was a great fan of sports, watching his favourite teams play on TV; he enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and trees. He enjoyed watching the birds and the deer around his farm. For those that knew Rob he was a truly humble and gentle man. He never used “colorful” language and he never criticized. Rob was all for progress – as long as there was no change! He was content with everything and was reluctant to make any changes. He enjoyed just having a cup of coffee and visiting with friends and relatives. He was never married but was content, loving life on the farm. He was always happy and jolly and loved to goof around and was the first to laugh at a joke. He liked poking around in second hand shops and buying treasures. He had little collection of knick knacks, trinkets, and rocks that he displayed in his home. He was an avid hunter but didn’t need to shoot. He just enjoyed all the tall tales and fellowship after the hunt.

He always offered muffins or chocolates to everyone who came to have coffee with him and seemed offended if you declined. He liked to play cards – especially a German card game called “Buck” (or Sheep’s Head). He loved taking care of his cats and had some famous cats like the one he named “Buster Useless Magoo – BUM for short!”  He never liked to have his picture taken and would put up his hand and say “No Paparazzi.”

Robert waged a long and brave battle with cancer over the last two years. He never complained and never gave up hope. He was planning to plant a garden and flowers this spring. He passed away peacefully at the Provost Hospital on May 10, 2024 at the age of 66 years, surrounded by his siblings. He will be sadly missed and it is with tears in our eyes and a pain in our heart that we say goodbye to our dear brother and friend.

Robert is survived by his siblings, Bernard “Ben” (Loretta) Scheck of Provost, AB and children, Benjamin (Phyllis), Matthew with Theodore, Eliza; Michael with August; Mary (Jim) Knowler, of Calgary, AB with Jordan; Irene (Myron) Ganser of Provost, AB and children, Emmett (Serena), Michelle (Parker) Pellegrini: Levi, Piper, Quinn; Simon (Zoe): Monty, Violet; Angela (Kirk) Sutherland of Ardrossan, AB and children, Jason, Tyson (Sofia): Henry; Kathy (Doug) Reichert of Cactus Lake, SK, and children, Megan (Kevin) Carter: Kaleb, Kate, Noah; Tyler (Kelsey): Luke, Lily; Bailey; Ron (Lori) Scheck of Provost AB, and children, Laine, Cade, as well as many cousins, friends and neighbours.
