Obituary of Rose Katherine Scherger
Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rose was born July 21, 1931 to John & Perpetua Hollman and raised on the family farm just east of Cosine. Throughout her life Rose always had a love for animals, especially dogs. Although never owning a dog of her own, it was very evident the care & passion she had for these dogs through the many times she would offer to watch or borrow her nephews pets.
On August 2, 1957 Rose married her husband of 55 years Adolph Scherger. After spending the first few years of their marriage in Edmonton, Rose & Eddy moved back to Provost before spending some time in Veteran where Eddy held a position with Heistead Flooring company. After a few years in Veteran, Rose & Eddy moved back to Provost where they would settle in and call it home for good.
Throughout her life, Rose was always known for her sense of style and flare. It was not uncommon to see her sporting a new hair do or a styled black outfit. Although a very simple lady, when it came to her hair & style, she was very particular in her high level of standards.
One of Rose's favourite hobbies was to spend a nice day on the lake with Eddy fishing. Another favourite pass time for Rose was getting together with Eddy and their many friends and relatives for a good old fashioned music session. When attending one of these pass times, it was normal to see Rose behind the reins of her favourite instrument, the accordion. Although it was awkward to see only her head and feet while she played, she was a very talented musician with an ear for a good song. Anytime she was playing music and surrounded by good friends and family, it was always accompanied by a good laugh and a beautiful smile.
Although a small lady, she was strong beyond imagination. In the mid 1980's, Rose battled cancer and won. Undoubtedly a tough journey, she fought the good fight and proved to herself and the world that she was not to be defeated.
As time went on, Rose continued to value the meaning of a true friend. Over the past years Rose spent a lot of time playing cards and having coffee with friends that she very much considered her family.
She was a lady that treasured her family and in return was given that same love. Her many nephews and nieces have fond memories of Aunt Rose calling to say that she had buttons, cabbage rolls, buns, beets and pickles that could be picked up for their eating.
Rose passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 81 years.
Rose will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Eddy; brothers, Alex and Edward (Annie); brothers in law, Joe Heck, Alex (Barbara) Bosch and John (Ida) Bosch; sisters in law, Mary Hollman and Rosalie Hollman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rose was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph (Eleanor) Hollman, Theodore Hollman, John (Betty) Hollman and Leo Hollman; infant sisters, Amelia and Rose; sisters, Mary Bosch, Annie Bosch and Josephine Heck; sisters in law, Elizabeth Hollman and Tess Hollman.
