Mielke, Lillian Marjorie (Shurmer)
April 8, 1925 – August 27, 2024
The family of Lillian Marjorie Mielke (Shurmer) announces her passing on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in Drayton Valley, Alberta.
Marjorie was born at Provost, Alberta in 1925, and lived most of her adult life in Provost.
She was a force at whatever she did, and definitely left her mark. Wherever she worked, played, or lived, there was a lasting impression. She was her husband’s right hand their entire lives together. Caring and going the extra mile in time of need, be it for her husband, mother, family or any of her numerous friends until the end, was her testament and memory to all.
Marge was an avid crocheter and loved to bake, cook and tend a garden. By far the majority of the people she ever knew have at least one piece of her crocheted work. In her younger years, breakfast, dinner and supper, were hearty and wholesome, but later in life she became very health conscious, both as a teacher and as a practitioner, cooking and eating very healthy. Her love to care and give of herself to others, started at a fairly young age. In 1943 at the age of 18 she started working in the Provost hospital as a cleaner, a junior health attendant, a junior cook then to head cook, all before getting married in 1946. At the age of 43 after upgrading to grade 10 and taking a 10 month course, she graduated as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse), which she retired from at age 65.
Marjorie was a deeply loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Her passing is a sad loss for her children and their families; Keith (JoAnn), Daphne, Gordon (Rita), Judy (Michael); her 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Earl Mielke and her son-in-law, Danny Hauck. She is also predeceased by her three siblings Ray, Jean and Gerald.
A funeral service for Marge will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul McCormick officiating. For those unable to attend, Marge's service will be livestreamed. The livestream will be available here on the GFH website under Marge's obituary at the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Provost Cemetery.
