Obituary of Bill Roadhouse

William Roy Roadhouse was born June 10, 1931. Bill was the first-born son of Wilbert “Wib” and Beatrice “Bea” Roadhouse on the family farm which was homesteaded by his father in the RM of Senlac and close to Cotswold School.

He grew up with his five brothers and one sister. Bill loved farming, caring for livestock and poultry and developed a life-long love for horses.

Bill had a variety of careers in addition to farming including 30 years as a school bus driver, mayor of Evesham, he was a self-taught expert on all things horse related, and 10 years as the general maintenance man at the Villa Marie in Macklin.

Bill was dedicated to his family, especially to his great-grandchildren. Bill’s passion for horses led him to a life of adventure. He built a covered wagon, a Democrat, and other buggies and wagons that he regularly used with many of his horse contemporaries. His faith led him to a lifelong commitment to the Church and he was a leader in his community, particularly with the youth. In his later years he discovered a love of travel with destinations of the Maritimes, Alaska, Ireland and Scotland.

Surrounded by the love of his family, Bill passed away on October 1, 2024, at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 93 years.

Bill is survived his wife, Ferne; son, John (Irene) and their children, Stacy (Doug) and their children, Matthew, Brady, Sarah and Cortney; Lisa (Sheldon) and their children, Jacob, Lucas and Elizabeth; Christine (Trent) and their children, Josh, Jonathan and Isabelle; Juanita (Dallas) and their children, Jacen and Hannah; Will and his children, Maya, Ana and Grayson; son, Jim (Carol) and his children, James (Christine) and their children, Taylor, Wyatt and Jessie; Jessie (Floyd) and their children, Devon and Kyle; Jeff (Rae) and their children, Rilyn, Cam and Cody; daughter, Kate; daughter, Janice and her children, Kayla (Derik) and their children, Sawyer and Charli; Tanner (Morgan) and their children, Gracy and Paisley; Ferne’s children, Leanne (Barry) and their children, Andrew (Alexis), Matthew (Dayne) and Daniel; Jay (Jacqueline) and their children, Neil and Dane; Bill’s brother, Lloyd (Patricia); sister in-law, Irene (Clifford); sisters in-law, Iris, Joan (Arch) and Donna (Bob); as well as many nieces and nephews that he adored.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen of 49 years; parents, Wib and Bea, brothers, Harvey, Wes ‘Skip’ (Betty), Stan (Kay), Russ; sister, Mary (Orlin) and daughter in-law, Rhonda.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a funeral for Bill on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Evesham Community Church with overflow seating at the Evesham Rec. Centre.
