Obituary of Marcel Benoit

Please share a memory of Marcel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

“Marcel” Joseph Henri Marcel Benoit, born on April 2, 1937, in Edmonton, Alberta to parents, Romeo and Marie Benoit (nee St. Pierre). He was one of 7 children: Mary, Estelle, Paul, Leo, Marcel, Gille and John.

He grew up on the family homestead just outside of Chauvin, Alberta. Marcel went to school in Chauvin before moving on to become a boilermaker, a career that he held for over 50 years while being active with the Boilermaker’s Union.

He loved talking about farming, his Oilers and Blue Jays and often spoke of his childhood memories and the trouble his siblings and he got into. He frequently walked around the community and stopped in to see his ‘girls’ at the Credit Union and Alberta Treasury Branch to say hi and give out candies. He enjoyed helping the staff at the Hillcrest Lodge with game night and ensured he had enough dimes to bet on the horse races. With his winnings, he treated himself to a vanilla shake at A&W and a few chocolate bars.

Marcel passed away unexpectedly on December 10, 2024, at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 87 years.

He is survived by his sons, Romeo, Leon (Jackie) and their children, Brandon, Austin (Roxanne); and Jamie (Tracy) and their son, Noah.

Marcel was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Florence (nee Frigon); daughter, Marieanne; son in law, Shaun.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Provost Hillcrest Lodge and Long-term care for taking care of Marcel. And special thanks to Annette and Dan Bacon and the Turcotte Family for all their care and assistance with everything.

A funeral service for Marcel will be held in the spring time. Please check back for more information.
