Obituary of Margaret Ruth Young

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Ruth was born September 2, 1929 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest child of Gus and Marie Honeker. She passed away suddenly in her own home in Luseland on May 11, 2013 at 83 years of age. Margaret lived in Compeer, Alberta and Luseland, Saskatchewan her entire life. She completed high school in a one-room country school house then spent three years teaching at various schools before meeting and marrying Jim Young in 1951. Married life was spent farming and socializing on a small farm outside of Compeer. Margaret was a driven woman who loved driving truck, swathing, and feeding the many mouths that sat around her table. She thoroughly appreciated a bountiful harvest and the hard work that went with it. In her later years, she loved to watch curling and rodeo, especially bull and bronc riding. She was so passionate about curling that she would even watch a game in hopes that her most despised team would lose. In the spring, she loved to watch the antics of the birds in her backyard and thoroughly enjoyed her pink petunias that she grew on her patio every year. She had many long visits with friends over coffee or on the phone, and could always be relied upon for good advice and an ear to listen. Margaret's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She spent many hours with her grandchildren making Jell-o, hot cocoa, buns, and jam-jams, picking berries, having picnics, watching swimming lessons, and putting up with the many blanket forts and messes they would make in her basement. A few of her life's highlights include many ladies curling bonspiels, traveling to Europe, the births of her four grandchildren, her grandson's wedding in Oregon, finally having a steady supply of drinkable water on her farm, and the last day of her life, which was spent visiting with her daughters and all of her old friends and family. Margaret will be remembered as a strong country woman, with proud, unbeaten shoulders and a fierce love for her family and friends. We will miss her straightforward honesty, sense of humor, trademark laugh, and unconditional love and support. We love you, we'll miss you, it's not goodbye, we'll see you again. Margaret will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her children, Dianne (Rick) Strankman, and Donna (Bill) Holton; grandchildren, Travis (Stacey) Holton, Virginia (Brodie Charteris) Holton, Pamela Strankman, Jay Strankman; siblings, Albert Honeker, and Rose (Slim) Zadorozny; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Honeker, Betty Honeker, Ed (Irene) Young, Barbara (Harold) Hougan, and Allen (Thelma) Young; as well as many extended nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, James; infant sister, Elsie; brothers, Herman and Art; in-laws, David Young and Margaret Honeker; nephews, Perry Honeker and Roger Honeker; and nieces, Beverly Honeker and Cathy Zadorozny.
