Obituary of Hazel Dorothy Beatty
Please share a memory of Hazel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hazel Dorothy was born on July 23, 1921 to Blake and Dorothy Lang in Chauvin, Alberta. Hazel passed away on December 21, 2011 at the Provost Nursing Home at the age of 90 years, ending her battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Hazel attended Green Meadow School, and, along with her three sisters, was an integral part of the Lang farm, south of Chauvin. She helped on the farm for several years after finishing school, including driving a 4-horse team for two seasons. Hazel went on to work in B.C., Ponoka and Grande Prairie before returning to help her parents who had moved off the farm to Chauvin.
Hazel married Glenn Beatty on April 11, 1959. They lived on the Beatty farm with Glenn's father, widowed brother, Herb, and two special nieces; Jeanette and Lorna. Glenn & Hazel had two children, Kevin and Fern, of whom they were very proud.
Hazel enjoyed all aspects of life on a mixed family farm, and spent countless hours gardening, berry picking and preserving the summer's produce, and helping Glenn feed the cattle in the winter. She enjoyed travelling with Glenn and took pleasure in her family, being a loving mother & grandmother, and enjoyed church, friends and the outdoors. She was an intelligent, yet humble, person who lived with quiet dignity.
Hazel's loving memory will be cherished by her son, Kevin (Eiri) and their children, Rhiannon & Gwyn Beatty; daughter, Fern (Greg) and their children, Shane, Serena & Chris Dixon; sister, Una Boutillier; sister-in-law, Colleen Beatty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Glenn; sisters, Frances and Phyllis; brothers-in-law, Bill and Herb Beatty and Allan Boutillier; sisters-in-law, Jean Beatty and Clara Beatty; nieces, Jeanette Schneider and Ruth Bauer; and nephew, Ross Boutillier.
