Obituary of Richard John Carrier

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard John was born August 22, 1951 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to John and Inez Carrier. Sadly, he passed away after a brief battle with cancer on February 10, 2014 in Provost, Alberta at 62 years of age. Rick was raised in Prince Albert and attended school at St. John's West Side until 1963 when the family relocated to Saskatoon. He continued his education at St. Paul's Elementary, City Park High School and E.D. Feehen. During his time in Saskatoon, Rick took up playing baseball at the age of 12. With his ability as a switch pitcher he took his team to Provincial Finals several times. In 1970, wanting to find his way, Rick joined the military in September of that year. He became a Field Engineer where he learned many skills from building bridges to blowing them up. After 10 years he decided to re-muster to the Construction Engineering Department as an electrician. During his career with the military, Rick and his family lived in PMQs at CFB Chiliwack, CFB Shilo, CFB Moose Jaw, CFB Suffield and as a final posting, back to CFB Shilo where he retired in August of 1995. Rick and his family chose to make Killam, Alberta their home. Upon retirement Rick began to work at the Sedgewick Co-op Building Centre. He worked there until 1997 at which time he joined the John Deere Dealership team in Killam as a partsman. 2011 brought the opportunity for advancement in his career as a Parts Manager at the Provost store. He continued to grow with this company until he could no longer physically return to his duties. Throughout Rick's life he enjoyed watching many sports and participated in a few. He was an avid golfer, who played baseball and hockey, and also enjoyed curling and bowling. During his years in Killam he became involved with the Killam Junior B Wheat Kings, working the time clock faithfully. The love of sports drew Rick into many conversations and arguments over the years, as many can testify. Many good times were had in the company of family, friends, and co-workers and his dedication and faithfulness to them, his country, and places of work are a true testament to the inner bones of this man. His greatest joy and legacy were his children and grandchildren. Every opportunity was taken to talk, brag, and laugh about his "kith and kin". In the end we celebrate his life, his accomplishments, and his family. Rick will truly be missed and met again in the great beyond.. Rick will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Linda; children, Adam (Erin) Carrier, Amber (Scott Hollar) Carrier and Mary Jane (Evan Sharp) Carrier; beautiful grandchildren, Rylee, Summer, Dominic, Tatum, Cadence, Tucker, Hunter and Ethan; sister, Sharon (Mike Chevrier) Christopherson; brother, Roger (Dianna) Carrier; and his special companion, Buster; as well as many extended family friends, and neighbors. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Inez (2013) and John (2009); and his sister, Marlene Beatty (2005).
