Obituary of Gordon Elmer Taylor

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gordon Elmer Taylor was born August 8, 1937 to John and Wilma Taylor in Provost, Alberta. He was the youngest addition to the family of two older boys; Clarence and Merle. They were later joined by their younger sister, Colleen completing this family of six. Gordon's father John was a farmer and his mother, Wilma was a school teacher bringing them up with good family values. Gordon finished school in 1952 and started working for a drilling rig company known out of Wainwright, where he met and fell in love with Joy Watson. They were married shortly after that on June 2, 1960. From this union came their firstborn, Roy, on March 1, 1962. He was followed by his younger sister, Sherri, on June 10, 1964. Shortly after that Gordon realized his passion for all things backhoe. He started his own company know as Taylor's Trenching and Excavating. Gordon went on to grow a very successful and well established company working throughout Alberta. Gordon stepped away from his passion in 2000, when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myloma. After a short battle with cancer, Gordon went into remission and decided to try his hand working for the Town Of Provost. For the next several years Gordon battled with cancer. He successfully went into remission a total of 3 times. Gordon decided to fully retire in 2009. Gordon went on to enjoy his retired life tinkering in the shop, and enjoying time with his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. He enjoyed playing cards and doing puzzles. Gordon suddenly left us on April 30, 2014. Gordon will be lovingly remembered by all of his family and friends. Gordon's biggest passion in life was the people that surrounded him. He was a very generous and kind hearted person and will be missed very dearly. Gordon's memory will be carried on through his loving wife, of 54 years, Joy; children, Roy (Monica) Taylor of Cadogan, and Sherri (Tim) Herle of Rocky Mountain House; grandchildren, Kim (Travis), Brandon, Jen (Eddy), Kristin (Curtis), and Nick (Paige); great-grandchildren, Sam, Domanick, Brooklynn, Ava and Neveah; great-great-grandchild, Urijah; two brothers, Clarence (Cathy) Taylor and Merle (Joyce) Taylor; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
