Obituary of Hazel Gerling

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Hazel Gerling, on January 2, 2012, at the age of 82. Hazel was born and raised in Macklin, Saskatchewan, where she and Albert owned a farm. Hazel was renowned for her very large garden she produced every year. Once they moved to town, Hazel also became a care giver at the Golden Twilight Lodge, a senior's residence. She truly enjoyed working with the residents; many of the colleagues she worked with became her very close friends. Hazel also volunteered at the Macklin Museum. She also donated many pies, squares and treats to the many events held in town every year. Hazel made many beautiful quilts, which are cherished by all of us. Hazel's greatest joy were her grandchildren…she truly enjoyed time spent with them, and absolutely glowed when they came to visit. Hazel is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Albert; her daughters, Shelly (Duane) Schug, and Louise (Garry) Bleier; and her cherished grandchildren, Shania, Tayna, Mattea, Aliya, and Kelsey. There are many close relatives who will miss her. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Annabelle (Thomson) Ellwood, her son (Donald) Wayne Gerling, her brothers, Don and Grant Ellwood, and brother in law, Ed Bleier.
