Obituary of Marlene Eleanor Paulgaard
Please share a memory of Marlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marlene was born Eleanor Marlene Gunderson on October 27, 1932 in Provost, Alberta and left us on December 6th, 2014 after a short stay in the Provost Health Centre.
Marlene spent her life in Provost, with brief stays in Thorhild and Edmonton. She grew up as the oldest girl in a family of six kids, having to take care of her siblings, do chores and waitress to help get by. In 1951 Marlene married Oscar Melvin Paulgaard and moved to the homestead by Bodo where Oscar was born. There they lived for many years until moving to Provost.
Marlene loved so many things--animals, lively chats, bingo, Scrabble, puzzles, her cabin at Capt. Ayre Lake and the occasional cigar. She loved digging into her big purse for candy to hand out to kids. She loved her chair and game shows. After her heart valve implant surgery in 2013, she chose a kitten to be her therapist and just last month took in a kitten that had been abandoned at the edge of Provost. Marlene was quirky, bold, passionate, obstinate and truly an exceptional spirit of great depth.
She has friends she just met and some that have been in her life for over 70 years.
She leaves behind her three children; Bob (children Oscar, Jim, Joanna and Margaret), Terilyn (partner Mark), Jeff (his wife Valerie and children Melissa, Nelson and Tamara) as well as brother-in-law Clifford Paulgaard (Norma), sister-in-laws Adeline Paulgaard and Carol Paulgaard, her sisters Gerry (Ken), Sandra, Judy (Roger) and her brother Richard. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews that she shared many special moments with. Also to mourn is her lifelong friend, Gertie Boser.
She was predeceased by her parents (Barbara and Einer Gunderson), her sister Shirley and her husband Oscar.
