Obituary of Laura Lee Zacharias

Laura was born to Leland and Lucille Prediger on May 14, 1952 in Provost, Alberta. She was the first of three children. Laura loved growing up on the farm and was always eager to lend a hand. With Lucille driving the truck at harvest, this created a need for someone to prepare meals. This was Laura's introduction to cooking and baking. Soon she became known for her delicious bread and buns. Laura met Lyle Zacharias in junior high school and stated it was love at first sight. They were married in January 1971. Their daughter Rhonda was born in March of that year, followed by Trent in September 1975. Laura and Lyle lived in Cadogan until 1980 when the moved to the farm. The only thing that rivaled Laura's love of family, close friends and cooking was her love for children, so it was a natural fit when in addition to being on the farm, Laura also worked as a teachers' aid at Cadogan School for 17 years. Laura loved working at the school. Every child she worked with held a special place in her heart. She looked on them with pride after they left Cadogan and progressed through life. It was Laura's love of children that fueled her passion to be a grandma. Her wish came true in 2006 when Trent and his wife Pam welcomed Aiden. This was followed by Abigail in 2009 and Madison in 2013. Laura was full of love for her grandchildren. She had a purse full of photos and was ready to show them at any time. Over the last few years Laura became ill with diabetes which led to other illnesses. After a lengthy and courageous battle, she passed away on December 28, 2015 at the age of 63 years. Laura is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 45 years Lyle; son, Trent (Pam); grandchildren, Aiden, Abigail and Madison; sisters, Janet (Lyle) Reinhart and Debbie Baynham (Peter Horvath); as well as her nieces, nephews, many family and friends. Laura was pre-deceased by her daughter, Rhonda in 1994; father, Leland in 2007; mother, Lucille in 2015. Her laughter, positive attitude, and loving nature will be missed.
