Obituary of Edna Martha Dawson
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edna Martha Blue was the fourth child born to Carl and Adeline Blue on May 18, 1925. After taking her schooling in a one room school house, Edna took house cleaning jobs in the area until she met the love of her dreams John Delbert Dawson Jr. The two were married on November 17, 1945 and moved into their first home in Macklin, Saskatchewan. In 1949, they purchased their farm and worked side by side to create a home for their family of three children, Dianne, David and Muriel.
Edna had many passions, including being active in the Anglican Church, working in the flower garden or practicing her talents of playing the accordion and weaving a needle through cloth or yarn. She did knitting for the Royal Alexander Hospital and of course made sure her grandchildren had toques and mittens for the upcoming winter. As the little saying that hung by her sewing machine said, "If life gives you scraps, make a quilt" and that she did. Many quilts were made with her time and love - it was common for Delbert to be seen trying to watch TV while the quilts were set up in the living room. Edna experienced the joy of life, but she also knew the pain of loss. Losing a child, her mate of 44 years and within a few years of this, the loss of a grandson, Edna showed her family what it was to have courage and be strong. Her strength will be remembered, and continued to shine through from her hospital bed where she made sure to keep her daughters in line and Don who was persistent to get her to eat. Her smile was always there, and will always be remembered. The days she laid in her bed, her smile would continue to shine. Never one to complain, simply, accepted the things as they happened.
Edna passed away peacefully on January 12, 2016 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 90 years.
We miss you already Mom.
