Obituary of Mabel Hope
Please share a memory of Mabel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mabel Irene was born to Elmer and Margaret (Symington) Theaker on June 1, 1923 in Provost, Alberta.
She attended school at Ferry Hill until Grade 8. After school she started working on various farms helping with the cooking and cleaning. At one of her jobs, she met and fell in love with Ernie Hope. They were married on May 9th, 1942 and started their married life in Carcross, Yukon. Together Mabel and Ernie raised their family of four children, on the ranch south of Czar.
Through the years as a devoted wife and mother, Mabel also prided herself on being as committed as Ernie to the farm. From driving a team of horses, hauling grain and driving tractor, to canning and baking goodies, there weren't too many jobs she didn't attempt. She enjoyed many hobbies including painting, ceramics, knitting and crocheting. Her hands were never idle.
Mabel and Ernie loved spending their winters in Arizona, where mom organized anniversary parties and other events in the community. They also travelled to New Zealand, Carcross, Yukon, Alaska, a cruise to Mexico. After Ernie's death Mabel continued travelling, exploring Canada with her family.
Shortly after Ernie's death in 2007, Mabel moved to Settler where she lived until her short bout with pneumonia called her to her eternal home on April 1, 2016 at 92 years of age. We will dearly miss Mabel's sense of humour and positive outlook and will forever be remembered for her love of the family and farm.
Mabel's legacy will be carried on through her children, Marguerite (Chas) Watson, Janet Todd, Rick (Chris) Hope and Judy Hope (Ed Clark); grandchildren, Cheryl (Darren) Tiede, David (Shauna) Watson, Brook-Lynn Kamdar, Gail Todd (Dave Mark), Kim (Craig) Bondy, James (Jessica) Hope and Shawn Hope; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Diana, Kathleen and Evan Tiede, Brianna, Davis and Teagan Watson, Priya Kamdar, Kaylyn, Jensan and Logan Bondy, Ty and Kallee Hope, and Gabriel and Javier Hope; sisters, Victoria, Verna, Jean and Joan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Ernie; son-in-law, Rod Todd; sister, Violet (Earl) McGillivray; brother, Lorne (Maryann) Theaker; and brothers-in-law, Horace Halverson and Francis Hochhausen.
