Obituary of Evan John Lubianesky
Please share a memory of Evan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Evan John Lubianesky was born on April 23, 1941 to Joseph Lubianesky and Maria (Kokacka) in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. He was raised on the family farm eight miles south of Cactus Lake in the Elk School District. After receiving his education at Elk School and working as a hired hand for many neighbours, he married Dianne Reichert (daughter of the late Jacob and Emilie Reichert) from the St. Donatus area in 1971. Together they farmed and raised their family of five children.
Life was always busy with Evan curling and playing ball during his early years. But before long, the kid's sports and activities occupied more time. Perry played hockey and the girls were involved in all sorts of sports. Evan was always very proud of his children's' accomplishments. He enjoyed watching his kids grow into adults, get married and have families of their own.
Working the fields, fixing and maintaining machinery, and caring for the cattle was not only his occupation but his passion. Proud, kind, generous, loving yet mischievous are words that can be used to describe the man Evan was. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to any distressed neighbor. There was more to Evan then a hard working farmer. He participated in many community activities to pass any free time. Many a summer evenings were spent with Andy umping fastball games at St. Donatus. In the winter months, chores were done early in the morning so the rest of the day could be spent skidooing and hunting coyotes and the occasional fox. The evenings turned into late nights, while many beverages were consumed to ensure the sleds were repaired for the next day.
The Thanksgiving weekend was a highly anticipated holiday. Each year Evan would prepare the decoys, goose plucker and vehicles for the upcoming hunting shenanigans with the "boys" from south of border. No one could have ever predicted that a random introduction 50 years ago would have turned into a lifelong friendship. Stories of great hunting adventures were told time and time again throughout the year. If those trucks, blinds and that shop could talk, could you imagine the stories they would tell.......
One of Evan's greatest passions was discing. He enjoyed the game, winning some and losing some, but most of all he enjoyed the socializing. Many hours were spent sweeping and salting the floors for the next game, searching for prizes and making sure the bar was well stocked with liquor. Another of his hobbies was attending every local auction sale. He was always searching for that elusive bargain, it didn't matter if he had ten of the same tools in the shop already; he figured it was a good deal he'd buy another one.
The last five years have been the most challenging for Evan and his family. Being diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in May of 2012 and finding out there was no cure was difficult to comprehend. No one could have imagined the courage, strength and acceptance that Evan revealed during his journey. Despite the condition he continued to live life to the fullest. He saw his youngest daughter get married and welcomed the arrival of two more granddaughters. His grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to him and he enjoyed each and every one of them. After a valiant battle, Evan passed away at St. Joseph's Health Centre, Macklin, Saskatchewan on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 75 years of age.
Evan is survived by his wife Dianne of 45 years. His five children, Trina (Guy, Mishaela, and Kennedy), Perry (Donna, Amie, Stephen (Megan) and Joshua), Leanne (Dale, Braydon, and Jacob), Cindy (Andrew, Emilie, and Garrett), Amanda (Shawn, Haeley, and Blayke). Evan is also survived by three great grandchildren, Justin, Connor and Makayla and his brother Julian, caregiver Tess and faithful companion Bandit.
