Obituary of Oscar Paulgaard
Please share a memory of Oscar to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Oscar Melvin was born March 4, 1924 at home in the Rosenheim District to Gustav & Magna Paulgaard. Oscar passed away at the Provost Health Centre - Long Term Care on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the age of 88 years.
Oscar's first and foremost love was his farm. Whether looking after cattle, working the land or taking care of the equipment, Oscar was always happiest with his work. His face glowed and he became animated whenever he relayed tales of his trucking days where he hauled lumber, machinery and livestock to and from as far away as Toronto. When oil was first located in the area, Oscar became one of the first people to recognize the industry as an opportunity. From this came Oscar's Cats. He used his understanding of land and gift with equipment to become one of the premier land movers in the area. As a farmer, he always looked for bigger and better ways to bring a crop to market. People could always turn to Oscar to see the latest advancements in agricultural technology. He loved machines and what they could do. He was at his best when making them work, from combines to his D-7.
Of course, he didn't always work. He was an avid rodeo fan. Summer evenings would find him in his office, listening to the chuck wagon races while doing paperwork. And for years he'd fly down to Las Vegas to the National Finals Rodeo.
Probably, if you go through your home, chances are you'll find one of the Oscar's Cats pens he'd hand out each Christmas. Next time you see one, remember Oscar and the contributions he made to the community and our lives.
Oscar will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Marlene; children, Robert and his children, James, Margaret (Darren), Joanna (Murray) and their children, Elizabeth & Jordan, Oscar Travis (Michelle); Terilyn (Mark); Jeff (Valerie) and their children, Melissa, Nelson & Tamara; brothers, Cliff (Norma); sisters-in-law, Adeline and Carol; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
Oscar was predeceased by his brothers, Elmer, Palmer and Harold.
