Obituary of Helena Volk

Please share a memory of Helena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helena was born October 28, 1922 in her family farmhouse 4 miles east of Denzil, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 12 children. She was raised with strong morals and values which she lived by throughout her 95 years. She obtained her Grade XII Diploma at Denzil High School before attending the Saskatoon Technical Institute taking business courses. She was working at the Creamery in Unity, Saskatchewan when she was swept off her feet by a young chap, Joe (JP) Volk. She liked his eyes and he drove a car!! They married on November 3, 1943 and settled on a farm 1 mile east of Denzil where they raised 12 children. She was a devoted wife and mother. Helena was a Charter Member of the Denzil CWL and played an active role for over 60 years. She enjoyed knitting, curling, discing, gardening and her passion 'sewing'. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will cherish the handmade quilts she gifted them. She amazed everyone with her talent of mending a sock over a light bulb. She learnt to drive at age 61, which gave her a new freedom to make a daily trip to Denzil. Helena remained on the farm for 6 years after Joe's death in 1999. In 2005 she moved into Unity, and enjoyed apartment living until the fall of 2013. From there she enjoyed a brief stay at the Villa Marie in Macklin before being transferred to the Provost Long Term Care Centre in July 2015, where she remained until her passing. Helena made friends easily, imparting a sense of calm wherever she went. Her prayerful patience, kindness and wit will be remembered by all. With loving family at her side, Helena passed away peacefully on November 22, 2017 at the Provost Health Centre ~ Long Term Care. She instilled in her children the value and importance of family and faith, for which we will be eternally grateful. Fly away Yellow Bird to the shining land. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: James (Doreen), Geraldine (Mike) Michalchuk, Ronald (Evangeline), Robert (Valerie), William (Carol), Kathleen (Jerome) Bartsch, Noreen (Gilbert) Kohlman, Margaret (Ernest) Scheck, Anita (Patrick) Jansen, Gloria (Stuart) Jewison, Patrick (Penny) and Frederick (Sheila); 41 Grandchildren; 66 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. Helena was predeceased by her husband Joseph Peter (1999); Grandson Luke (1995); Parents Michael Deibert (1930) and Maria Eva Bitz (1941); 11 siblings and numerous brother and sister-in-laws. A vigil service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Denzil, Saskatchewan.
