Obituary of Charles Vaughan

Charles Alexander William "Chuck" Vaughan of Provost, passed away at the Provost Continuing Care Centre on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the age of 94 years.. Chuck was born on February 28, 1924 at Pipestone, Manitoba. During Chuck's pre-school and early elementary years, Chuck lived with his parents Jack and Mary Vaughan, older sister Eva and younger brother Jack at Pipestone, Manitoba and Loreburn, Saskatchewan. The family then moved to take up permanent residence at Canwood, Saskatchewan. He participated in many sports, including his favourites baseball, curling and hockey. He spent time at his parents butcher shop, an uncle's drug store and at farms owned by the Vaughan and Wilcox families. Chuck worked closely with Dad on a repair crew for Searle Grain. Chuck "volunteered" with the Signal Corp in the Canadian Army in 1941. After training in Canada, he quickly found himself fighting with the Allies in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Of note he landed on Juno Beach in France and had the distinct privilege in Germany of radio signaling the official 'in the clear' cease fire notice to all Allied military operations in the area. Following Chhuck's return from the war he was very fortunate to meet young banker, Eva Florina Vaughan of Steep Creek, Saskatchewan who was working at the Canwood Imperial Bank of Commerce. Their love blossomed and they were married at Canwood on January 15, 1949. Chuck and Eva began their lives together at Smiley and Leask, Saskatchewan, where Chuck managed grain elevators for National Grain (now Cargill). During this time sons, Terry and Pat were born. Chuck was transferred to Edmonton during 1957 and their third son Scott was born during this time. Chuck was then further transferred to manage a grain elevator at Provost, Alberta, which this community hbecame a long time and very treasured home for the family. Chuck volunteered with a number of organizations in the communities that he lived. He particularly enjoyed coaching his son's baseball teams. Chuck was named Alberta Baseball Coach of the Year in 1977 reflecting teams that played in and won provincial and western Canadian championships. Chuck is survived by three sons, Terry (Marilyn) Vaughan of Red Deer, their two sons Ian and Todd; Pat (Colleen) Vaughan of Provost, their three children Jason, Ryan and Karla; and Scott (Suzanne) Vaughan of Edmonton and their two children Mykayla and Chayse; sister-in-laws Phyllis Vaughan and Ivy MacDonald; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Chuck is predeceased by his loving wife Eva; parents Jack and Mary Vaughan; sister Eva Watson; brother Jackie Vaughan; brother-in-laws Harry Watson, Jim Phelps, Charlie Phelps, Ken MacDonald and sister-in-law Pat Phelps.
