Obituary of Bernard Gartner

Please share a memory of Bernard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernard Gartner was born on September 12, 1930 in the Cosine district of Saskatchewan to John and Rosa Gartner. Ben grew up on the family farm south of Macklin. He was the 4th of 9 children. He farmed for a short while with his dad and mom until the sudden passing of both his parents. Ben then took over the family farm and became the father figure for his younger siblings. He married Doreen Rolheiser on August 2, 1954 and together they raised their three children. Ben had many loves and interests. His true love was his wife, Dori (Doreen), his kids, and grandchildren. They were very important to him and he always enjoyed hearing about all of their achievements. He also had many interests through the years. Ben enjoyed chariot, chuck wagon and gymkhana racing. When he wasn't enjoying time with his horses, you could find him at the arena watching his grandkids and in his earlier years coaching the Macklin Mohawks. During the summer you could find him down at the ball diamonds umping and coaching the Macklin Blue Jays. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus for many years. In his later years he enjoyed playing cards with friends, neighbors and especially his grandkids (giving lessons on shuffling, learning to count and the biggest lesson of all was how to lose gracefully). He loved dancing, disking and driving around looking at crops. Ben continued farming until Ernie took over the farm and then stayed actively involved helping until about 8 years ago. He enjoyed spending time tinkering around the farm and taking care of his horses up until his passing. Bernard passed away peacefully on October 19, 2018 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 88 years. Ben is dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Doreen, three children, Elaine (Don) Gartner, Ernie (Teri) Gartner and Sherri (Rod) Soderlund; the pride and joy of his life his five grandchildren, Dylan (Katrina), Cassidy, Kelly (Mckenna), Hayden and Tia; Siblings, Virginia (Pete) Ackerman, Ida (Vince) Weber, Arnold (Jean), Bruno (Shirley); In-laws, †Alex (†Elizabeth) Rolheiser, †Sr. Donata, +Hubert (Kathy) Rolheiser, Alex (Emily) Rolheiser, †John (Agnes) Rolheiser, Hilda (Joe) Rottmar, Victora (†Mike) Schlosser, Della (August) Weinkauf, Kathy (Victor) Scheck and Dolores (Len) Schlosser; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
