We had known Michelle since before she became our daughter Janice's room mate. Even after Janice moved away, we would see Michelle often in downtown Vancouver. We have fond memories of our many chats on the sea wall over the years or one last summer on Robson St. Michelle was on her bike and stopped. We had a long chat and while standing by an awning a pigeon christened Michelle! She was not happy. We had a laugh about it the next time we met on our walks. She was usually riding her bike in town. We were very sorry to hear from her that she had not been well. We always left our chats with a hug. Late in March she was riding by our place and called up a sweet Hello to us on our balcony. We asked how she was at that time and wished her well. To hear she passed away soon after our greetings from the balcony are heart breaking. We also made a donation to the Animal Rescue Foundation in Alberta. Brian and Dayle Buckley

My deepest condolences to the entire extended Slobodian Family. I am so sorry for your loss. I was just trying to bookmark this page so I can come back to it in a day or 2 when I had more time to look for pictures etc. The thing is, not only would it not allow me to bookmark it, but after closing all the other open windows, I could not close this one. When I tried to close it, it temporarily disappeared and then came back and no longer could be closed. I believe this was a true sign from God that I was meant to leave a note in memory of Michelle now! This is what I wanted to share: To my Beloved Michelle: Hearing the news of your passing has filled my heart with such massive pain. I have so many wonderful childhood memories shared with you and was so blessed to have had you in such a massive part of my life growing up together as my next door neighbour for 23+ years. When I get my pictures organized I will try to upload some later. Our childhood was amazing and I'm absolutely shredded and so sorry that you had to endure most of it without your Father - I had nothing but great memories of the very friendly and loving giant of a man with a beard and a big heart that I always knew as "Mr. Slobodian". I cannot even imagine how difficult that must have been for you and your Family. I wish I could have done more to help you and I am so sorry I could not be at your Funeral to share some of the great memories I shared with you. I choose to celebrate you and all the great memories you gave me....like: -Grabbing my mom's jello powder together out of the closet, hiding behind her bed and eating it (pure coloured sugar!) right out of the box till she would catch us...we also used to grab her home made biscuits and run outside to chow down. -When you and Carmen would come out and ask to play hockey with us - Carmen had a yellow cosom hockey stick and you had a blue one. -When you brought your toy poodle sparky home for the first time in your silver with wood grain station wagon. -Playing Croquet in the backyard and hitting Sparky with the croquet ball. -Leaving a full ice cream cone to melt in the sun, then getting politely told by your sweetheart of a mom that I "Should not have done that...never waste food" -Watching Natalie, Carmen and yourself have some very entertaining, heated and screaming arguments about reasons I can't recall (??chores, clothes??)...so typical of teenage siblings! -Night time hide and go seek tag with the street light post as our home base. -Trick or treating in the amazing clown costume you lent me and running door to door until we filled up our entire pillow case with candy. -Trips to the video store to rent a VHS movie, then watching it at your house - particularly horror movies like "Maniac (1980) which had me so scared I thought I wasn't going to make it across the front rock garden alive. -Waiting for you at the bottom of your stairs so we could walk to Elementary school together. -Working with you at Safeway -Cruising around in our Jeeps and going on shopping trips to Bellis Fair Mall and Outlets in the States. -Seeing your reaction when a certain tall friend of ours was "pantsed" right in front of you and Carmen in the path. -Going for bike rides -Going to South Arm Pool on those hot summer days -When you would come over to play ColecoVision with me, particularly Donkey Kong. (Only game I had as it came with the console!) -Just being your friend and sharing so many great simple times together, goofy moments and a ton of laughter. Michelle, I can go on and on but there is too much to list. I leave you with this song that I so vividly remember sticking with me as a child because it spoke of dying and had your name in it. I remember it upset me because of how close we were and the thought of that brought me to tears in Grade 3 when the teacher played it. I felt compelled to search for this song and this is the link to the 1st one that came up on YouTube...the lyrics and images were shocking to me... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YG9otasNmxI Michelle, thank you for being such an important part of my life. I will always remember and cherish growing up with you, the sun shining days, the joy and the confidence that you gave to me through your beautiful smile. You will be so sorely missed, may you Rest in Peace and May God Bless your Soul. Your friend Forever, Danny Cabral

I worked with Michelle at Diamond Centre outpatient~ Stroke Prevention Clinic. I feel very sad to hear that she has died, it is so unexpected. She spoke fondly of her mother and her sister(s). She was a very deep thinking woman who was very kind and loved animals a lot. She will be missed
