Obituary of Emelia Pauline Formanek
Please share a memory of Emelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Emelia Pauline was born November 10, 1932 at the farm north of Altario to Henry & Pauline (nee Beier) Miller. She was the oldest of nine children.
Emelia went to school at Blarney and later worked in Macklin and Consort Hospitals as a cook's assistant. Emelia went on to marry Pete Formanek on June 22, 1957 and to this union was born a son, Greg, and two daughters, Darlene and Michelle.
Emelia had a deep faith in God and tried hard to attend mass every Sunday. She often said if she missed mass, it felt like something was missing all week. She often said the congregation in Consort was like a second family and she always had a hello, hug or handshake for everyone as they came in as she sat in the back in her wheelchair. Her kids often teased her that she was the Walmart greeter of the church.
Emelia loved farm life and if it came down to a choice between milking cows and doing dishes, milking cows won every time. She also became known as the 'egg lady' of Consort where the many customers she delivered eggs to became friends. She also loved working in her garden and was very proud of her potatoes and always looked forward to the fresh lettuce. Along with her gardening, she also loved to cook, bake and can.
Emelia was an avid reader and was still reading in her hospital room. She liked to embroider and always had a circle and word book in her hand while watching television or listening to the chuck wagons on the radio.
Emelia was always there to support her 'kids' as she always said 'my kids' in whatever the needed. She was always there to listen, lend a shoulder or whatever you needed. Her girls always looked forward to her five o'clock phone call to find out how their day went. She was always there to help her son make farming decisions.
Emelia passed away on January 21, 2011 at the Consort hospital with her family by her side.
She is survived by her three children, Greg Formanek, Darlene Formanek and Michelle Formanek; brothers, Jack (Mabel) Miller, Herman (Linda) Miller, Ray Miller, Pete (Ruby) Miller and Con (Marcella) Miller; sister, Rose Cromwell (Larry); sisters in law, Shirley Miller and Kate Boch; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
