Andrew Wood posted a condolence
Monday, November 26, 2012
I recently lost my father and have been clearing through many years of personal materials. I have found a sympathy card and letter send to my parents (Frederick and Iris Wood (nee Trickett))signed by Ruth & Alf Peckham, 'love and sympathy from your cousins', after the death of my Auntie Phyllis Turner (nee trickett). The letter is dated June12/1980, with a postal address :PO Box 29, Luseland Sask. Canada S0L 2A0. The letter gives details of 'Our son Dave and his wife Dorothy have a nice little family. Jason was 6 yesterday and has had his first year at school. Corinne will be five in August and will start school this fall. Christine was a year in February. She has been walking since last November'
I found this site by typing 'Ruth & Alf peckham' into Google. I hope you do not mind my using this website to try and communicate - I was amazed to find the details of your family matched the names in the letter.
If Alf and Ruth were my mother's first cousins, our 3 children(William, Rupert and Duncan) (my wife is called Deirdre) would be third cousins to Christine and Jason and Corinne (I was saddened to see that she had died at such a tender age).
I would love to know the common ancester we share and how your family (I assume) started a life in Canada. My grandmother was called Rose Meakin before she married my Grandpa Trickett. Perhaps Rose Meakin was Auntie Rose to either Ruth or Alf Peckham?
Please do e-mail me - it would be very exciting to discover some 'new' relatives.
Regards
Andrew Wood

Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with Dorothy, Jason, Christine and husband. We hope to see you on Thursday, weather permitting. Alf was such a gentleman, kind, and a happy fellow. He sure enjoyed the Shop and tinkering in it. He made us a wonderful sign of iron. We will keep the good memories in our hearts forever. We have many good times and memories of Alf and Ruth.

Slavie remembers working on Alfie's thresh crew beginning in 1947. He remembers Alfie and Ruth as kind, hospitable people. Alfie did steel lathe work for farmers in the community. We enjoyed their friendship.
