Obituary of Evamaria Neufeld

Evamaria Appolonia Neufeld was born September 11, 1930 in Karlsruhe, Germany; the only child of Franziska and Otto Dupper. Her childhood was spent in Germany where she experienced the bombing of her home in World War II and a visit from Hitler to her school. After the war she attended school in England for one year and had the fortune of having tea with the then Princess Elizabeth. Evamaria went on to become a linguistic, fluent in English, French, German and Italian. In 1951 she worked for the U.S. Military in Karlsruhe as a translator. In 1953, Evamaria came to Ontario, Canada to visit her friend who had immigrated here. Accompanying her friend, and acting as an interpreter for real estate negotiations, she was introduced to Con Neufeld, who was a realtor. Con and Evamaria were married and were blessed with four children. They returned to Saskatchewan to take over the family farm. Evamaria was an active member of the community, involved with curling, the church choir, UCW, Macklin Arts Council and National President of the Canadian Calorie Counters. She loved sewing for herself and others and went on to become the owner and operator of Macklin Fashion Fabrics for many years. Evamaria loved travelling and returned to Germany many times. Con and Evamaria travelled well into their retirement visiting numerous places throughout the world. Spending time with her grandchildren at the farm, Sunday afternoon drives checking the crops, hosting afternoon coffees, barbeques and evening parties with family and friends were her favorite times. Due to health, Evamaria moved to St. Joseph's Health Care Centre, where she passed away peacefully. Evamaria leaves to mourn her loving children, Harold (Shirlianne) Neufeld and their sons, Nick & Al; Tom Neufeld and daughter, Kiera; Suzanne (Elmer) Fischer and their children, Kurtis (Lisa) & Lisa; Pierre (Maureen) Neufeld and their children Paul (Rhianna) & Michelle. She will also be sadly missed by her step-son John Richard Neufeld Sr. and his children John Richard Jr. (Nicole) & Tyler; Jennifer & son Kenny; sister-in-laws Catherine Tunbridge and Victoria Kinash; niece Edith (Abe) Doell, and nephews Harry (Anne) Frieson, Eric (Deanna) Dirksen, Paul (Sandra) Dirksen, Bill (Shelley) Kinash, and Peter (Elrose) Kinash. Evamaria was predeceased by her husband, Con; parents, Franziska and Otto Dupper; and Aunt, Elsie Winckelmann.
