To Julie, Wendy, Vern, Lee, and Troy, I wish to send my heartfelt condolences to all of you. I took piano lessons from your Mom for only 2 years, but she helped inspire a lifetime of music appreciation in me.(I have been a dance teacher for 14 years.) I'll never forget Verlie. God Bless you all. Sincerely, Kathy Kraft Garcia Barrie, Ontario

The world is a better place because Verlie made it so. Her kind and gentle way with people in all matters was an example to me. She nurtured music, love, and confidence in all who came to her. I remember her smile and her words of wisdom. She lived large and gave her all. I was truly blessed to have received her gifts, gifts that I still have in my heart.

Dear Meiklejohn family I want to thank each of you for sharing your Mom with so many music students over the years. Verlie truly touched the lives of many and her love for music will live on in all of us. I will always cherish many fond memories of my time spent at the Meiklejohn home, and your Mom repeating. . . Barbie you must practice your scales!

I'm very sad to learn tonight of Verlie's passing. I wish I could have been at the service. I hope that it was lovely and filled with music. Verlie and I teased each other that she was my 'second mom'. I was there so much, and she cared so much. I was sure I was her favorite, but I don't doubt she made us all feel like that! I loved to watch Verlie eat apples, she enjoyed every bite so much and ate it right down to the seeds and stem. She cared so much for us all, and tended to us and the community and the church with such dedication and passion. She loved to laugh, and she gave great hugs. When I frustrated her with my lack of practicing, or poor effort, I could tell she was mad becuase her writing in my scribbler would get huge and had lots of exclamation points added to her sentences! I still have all my books and scribblers, and looked through them all recently when one of my daughter's started piano lessons. I have the books she and Sonny gave me for my 17th birthday sitting on the piano right now, I love to look at her handwriting. She gave me Kuhlau and Haydn sonatinas. I was thrilled when they came and stayed with me overnight in Revelstoke when I got my first job after college. Verlie cleaned my kitchen and scraped the burnt black stuff off my stove! I cleaned like I practiced, I guess!! Verlie was an extremely important person in my life growing up, and her memory is imprinted on me forever. I am grateful for the love, good values and caring she worked into my lessons. I will continue to think of her often, and have so many wonderful memories, scribblers, notes and letters to cherish. My deepest condolences to the whole family. Sincerely, Gina.

Dear Meiklejohn families: I was so saddened to hear of Verlie's passing. I have so many fond memories of the many hours spent in the music studio. Verlie was such a loving and caring person and she gave so much to the youth of this area through her teaching. I learned so much from her, not just about music, but how to be a good citizen. She was a great example to all who had the privilege to know her. The Provost Music Festival is a legacy to her and students today are still able to learn and grow through the arts (even my own children compete in festival). You can be so proud of the positive impact she had in her community. Take comfort in your memories of your mother and grandmother and know that others are praying for you during this difficult time. God's blessings to you all.
