Obituary of Clara Livina Schumacher
Please share a memory of Clara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clara Livina Schumacher was born on November 29, 1938 to Henry and Margaret Nickel. Clara grew up in the Green Glade School District area north of Provost, Alberta on the Nickel family farm.
She loved animals, farm life and riding horses. She worked in the garden and learned how to bake, cook, can food and churn butter. In her teen years she loved spending time with friends and going to barn dances. She worked as a cook and baker at the Provost Hospital and then married Larry Schumacher on July 10, 1958. She was an active member of Kinettes, STA School Board, and CWL. She was a devoted mother and wife, supporting Larry in running PAT’s Garage in Provost, Alberta and creating a lovely home for her children to grow up in. She supported her children in competitive swimming, travelling to swim meets and volunteering in all capacities. Clara loved having coffee and visiting and playing cards with her many friends in Provost, Alberta. She was an avid crafter and loved to make homemade gifts for family. Her kitchen was always a busy place with her making homemade jam, soup, canning pickles or fruit, baking and many other projects like sewing and quilting. She loved her flowers and spent many hours keeping her yard and garden beautiful and colorful. She enjoyed travelling, and made trips to
Switzerland to see her daughter and family and to places like Europe, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Mexico, Panama and Alaska. Closer to home, she enjoyed camping spending time at Dillberry Lake and enjoying time with family and friends.
Clara filled her life with love and family, helping with weddings and grandkids when they came along. She was very involved at St. Mary’s Parish and with the CWL for more than 58 years. One of her favorite pastimes in retirement was making quilts with friends and donating them to the women’s shelter in Camrose, Alberta. On her own time she made them for all of her family. Her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and theirs after that. She will be sadly missed but forever cherished.
Clara passed away at the Norwood Community Care Centre in Edmonton, Alberta on July 20, 2019 at the age of 80 years.
