When I was a little girl, my mom and dad, Don and Donna Duperon, would take my sister, Lori, and I to visit the ranch. Being from the city, the ranch was a magical place to visit. Uncle Neale being the consummate gentleman cowboy and Auntie Doris, always the beautiful and gracious host, were so warm and welcoming. I barely remember the old farm house with Auntie Doris separating fresh milk but I remember the warmth of the kitchen and the family around me. My favorite thing to do, as I am sure it was with my cousins, was going out on the truck trails in the pasture and sitting on Uncle Neale's lap while he let me steer the truck. What a thrill. I felt all grown up. One year, when we went to visit, I desperately wanted to ride a horse. Uncle Neale showed me the horse corral and told me when I caught the horse, I could ride him. Being very determined, but not at all skilled at catching horses, I tried for what seemed like hours to convince the horse to get near me. As soon as I crept up, he ran away. I was crushed until Richard took pity on me, caught and saddled up the horse. I was so excited to get on that horse! I started out the horse and then suddenly he took off galloping with no control from me. I held on for dear life while I am sure everyone was holding their breath, but it was still wonderful to me. I am so happy the my son, Conor had an opportunity to spend some time with Uncle Neale as well. My all time favorite photo of Conor at the ranch is when Conor was around 5 years old and is sitting on Uncle Neale's lap steering the truck on the prairie. I am so glad that Conor has magical memories of the ranch and Uncle Neale as well. I will miss you my dear Uncle. Be well in your next adventure on the prairie. Mona Lee
