Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edith Evelyn Scammell at the age of 76 years old.
Edith was born May 12, 1944 in Radway, Alberta third child to George & Evie Kreiser. She grew up and attended school in Cadogan and Provost. In May of 1962, she married the love of her life Roy Scammell. Roy and Edith were married for 54 years and raised Dean, Bruce, Neil and Valerie.
Edith loved her sports from playing basketball in high school to fastball and curling. She even coached high school fast ball for a few years. There were many late nights spent helping Dad do the draws for the big Cadogan bonspiel; she for sure helped keep the party going. She talked about the 8 ender that they had scored. Edith rarely missed curling games on TV. She was always the biggest fan for her kids and grandkids whether it was hockey, curling, baseball, football, dance or rodeo; if there was a game, she did her best to be there and let her voice be heard cheering her heart out.
In early years, she cleaned rooms at the Provost Hotel; following that she had a long career at the ALCB liquor store. Mom and Dad bought the Wye Knot Tour Bus; Dad drove and Mom enjoyed being the tour guide making the trips memorable for all of their passengers.
Roy and Edith become snowbirds and bought a place in Apache Junction and spent many warm winters there. Countless pool games, swimming and happy hours were enjoyed with her friends and brothers and sister. If the happy hour wasn’t at her place, she would hop on her golf cart and go find one.
Mom loved Capt Ayre lake and spent all her summers there in her cabin and then her fifth wheel. You could stop there any time for a visit, supper or a drink.
Mom had at least three families; her immediate families, her Arizona family, and her lake family. She will be missed by all.
She is lovingly remembered by her family; son, Dean (Deb) Scammell; their children, Jennifer (Dan (great grandchild Nathaniel)); Tracy (Jesse); Mark (Melanie (great grandchildren Adalynn & Emery)), Sheldon.
