Obituary of John Stanley McNevin

John Stanley “Jack” McNevin was born on November 29, 1940 at Carrot River, Saskatchewan to Stanley and Elizabeth McNevin. At a young age, the call of the north took Jack from their family farm on a 17-year adventure throughout the northern prairie provinces, as a surveyor for mineral exploration. Jack always had a joke or story to tell about the people he met and the places he visited in his travels. His stories were enjoyed by many and we will miss his witty one liner’s. On June 21, 1975 Jack married the love of his life, Shirley Phillips in Nipawin Saskatchewan. The north called again and Jack and Shirley moved to the Northwest Territories to help build and operate the service station and hotel complex at Eagle Plains. After their time at Eagle Plains they moved to Alberta, where they operated Turbo service stations in Provost and Wainwright, Jack also enjoyed his job at the Czar Transfer site as well. Jack’s family was his pride and joy, he loved spending time with everyone. He had a lifelong interest in aviation and photography. He also spent many hours helping Shirley in their garden and working in his workshop on various projects. Jack passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on February 13, 2021 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 80 years. Jack will be forever missed by his wife of 45 years, Shirley; step sons, Ken (Karen) Phillips and Terry (Brenda) Phillips; Grandchildren, Stan Phillips (Wren and Chip), Tarra Phillips (Maddison, Willow and Mercy), Chris (Vanessa) Phillips (Austin, Kaylee, Damian and Rayfe), Lindsay (Stephen) Dewald (Blaike and Quinn). Until we meet again, fly low, slow and throttle back in the curves.
