Sophie Bertha Heck (Reinbold) was born March 17, 1936 the second of four children to John and Caroline Reinbold of Bodo, AB. Sophie passed away on February 21, 2021 at the age of 84 in Provost, AB with all her children near her. Sophie was born and grew up on the farm at Bodo. She started Grade 1 at Dochart School west of Bodo, and graduated from Bodo High School in 1953. In the fall of 1953, she went on to attend the University of Alberta in Edmonton at the age of 17 where she successfully obtained a 1 year teaching certificate. She taught at Compeer that spring on a maternity leave position and went on to teach the following year at Bodo. Sophie married Albert V. Heck August 2, 1955 and to this marriage 9 children were born. They raised their family on the farm at Bodo. Sophie was a very active member of the Bodo Community including the Bodo Discing Club and was an active member of the CWL for over 65 years. She was an avid quilter, and loved to sew, crochet and craft. She won many ribbons and Grand Champion awards at the annual Provost Craft Fair. After Albert’s passing in 2000, Sophie remained on the farm and eventually moved to a duplex in Provost in 2007. In 2015, Sophie moved into the Hillcrest Lodge in Provost where she resided until her passing. As well, Sophie leaves to mourn her sister, Blondina Walz; and Brothers & Sisters-in-Law, Fontella Reinbold, Joanne Reinbold, Dorothy & Roger Giovanetto, Marcus Heck, Linda Heck, Eva Heck, Allan & Doreen Heck, Eileen & Dave St. Peter and numerous nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Albert V. Heck, her parents, John & Caroline Reinbold, Mike Moser, her brothers, Jim Reinbold and Henry Reinbold; brother in-law, Willie Walz; her in-laws, Peter P. & Clara Heck, Dennis Heck and Adele Heck. Sophie was a wife, mother, farmer, teacher, school bus owner & driver, and friend to all. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all that knew her. A come and go viewing for Sophie is open to the public and will take place at Gregory’s Funeral Home in Provost, AB from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2021. Prayer Service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Both services will take place at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Provost, Alberta with Father Christopher Selvaraj Rayappan officiating. Interment will follow at the Provost Cemetery. Due to current Provincial Health restrictions, Prayer and Funeral Services along with the burial will be private family events by invitation only. A livestream video of the funeral will be available through Gregory’s Funeral Home’s Facebook and YouTube pages. The service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service beginning.
