Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janet Margaret Stephens (nee Hanton) was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan on December 11, 1927. The daughter of Thomas Lumsden Hanton and Margaret Lawrence; sister to Lawrence. She grew up on the family farm five miles south of Macklin. Janet attended Bride School and excelled academically. She carried the love of learning with her throughout her adult life. Although she was not able to realize her own dreams of a higher education she instilled this love in her children and was very proud of her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s accomplishments. Janet learned to cook and bake at a young age – her ability to put a last minute feast together for surprise visitors was amazing. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her wonderful bread and buns. She was a grain farmer at heart, even though the rush to put the crop in and take it off was stressful she loved being out in the field. She spent many hours driving the tractor and truck yet somehow managed to cook meals, harvest the produce from her large garden and keep five children fed, clothed, and watered! Janet gave generously of her time to a number of causes including teaching Sunday School at the North End School, serving on the Twilight Lodge Auxiliary and a long-time volunteer for the MS Society. Janet passed away on Saturday April 24, 2021 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 93 years. She will be missed and remembered by her family,Wayne (Mary McGuire) of Macklin; Terry (John McMillan) of New Zealand; Sandra (Alan Klemmer) of Saskatoon; Alvin (Cathy Skene) of Saskatoon; Darryl (Roxanne Jabusch) of Saskatoon; as well as 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and life-long friend Grace Kine. Janet was predeceased by her husband, Francis Rouncefield (Bud) Stephens in 1997.
