Violet Ferris (August 16, 1918 - January 22, 2022) Violet Louise Marie Ferris (nee Wahlberg) passed away at Provost Health Centre on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the age of 103 years. Vi was born in Montreal, Quebec, and was the oldest child of John and Gudrun Wahlberg. They moved to Chauvin, Alberta in 1932. Over the years she helped at her father’s store, worked as a hairdresser, and as a cashier at the Royal Theatre. Violet was athletic and enjoyed playing softball and tennis. In her later years, she was an avid curler and square dancer. Violet met the “love of her life” Lorne Ferris at Salt Lake and the two were married on December 15, 1939. She was proud of her wine wedding dress with fancy white lace which cost $3.98. The newlyweds moved to the Ferris Family Homestead where she remained until August of 2020 - living there alone for the last 35 years. Growing up during the depression made her strong, resilient, and full of life. She maintained the family farm until she was 102 years old and loved every minute. Vi will be lovingly remembered by her son, Con Ferris (Darlene); granddaughter, Kelsey (Terence); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorne (1988); her brother, John Wahlberg; sister, Hilda Brett. A very special thanks to Dr. Erasmus, AHS caregiving staff and especially to all of her close neighbors for their endless support. Memorial donations in Violet’s honour may be made to the Provost Heath Foundation. A Celebration of Vi's life will be held later this spring.
