Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Karen Mary Meier was born July 20, 1950 in Ponoka, Alberta. She was the second of 13 children born to Frank and Theresa Meier. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Kirriemuir, Alberta and attended Altario School from Grades 1-12. On December 12, 1969 Karen married the love of her life, Calvin Lakevold and together they welcomed four children. Darcy (1974), Daryl (1976), Michelle (1980), and Bobby (1978). Their family soon grew with the addition of a daughter in law and son in law, followed by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Karen adored her family. She took an active role in the things that her kids participated in such as leading 4-H. As a Grandma, she never missed a ball or hockey game, rodeo, or gymnastics recital. Gardening and baking were two great passions in her life. She took pride in her large garden and yard and spent many hours planting, weeding, tilling and harvesting. She loved to cook and if you were ever invited to her home, you never left hungry. Her buns and pies were second to none and she enjoyed spoiling those she loved with her treats! She also loved spending time at the family cabin at Capt. Ayre Lake. She often said that it was her “happy place,” as it was so quiet and peaceful. She could always be found on the front deck, sitting in her chair with her nose in a good book and a coffee close at hand. Karen passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022 at Provost Health Center after a short and courageous battle with Cancer. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her loving husband of 52 years, Calvin; children, Darcy (Brenda) Lakevold, Michelle (Travis) Peacock, and Bobby Lakevold; grandchildren, Kellie (Dylyn) Mohr, Kerry (Amy) Lakevold, Klayton, Kody, Evan, Kenzie, Emmett, Kahle; great grandchildren Scarlett, Layton, and Kash; siblings, Lorna Jack, Marge (Jerry) Tripp, Ben Meier, Peggy (Harold) Busby, Bob (Pat Therrien) Meier, Martin (Colleen) Meier, Christine Meier, Linda (Jerry) Jakubec, Gina (Joe) Lukey, Tom (Lois) Meier; siblings in law, Gerald (Joyce) Lakevold, Carol (Les) Ferguson, Shirley (Don) Thompson, Maryanne (Gean) Faber, Janet Lakevold Boake, Yvonne (Gord) Jennings.
