Please share a memory of Allan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Allan Leslie Akre was born on August 12, 1935, in Provost, Alberta to Alvin and Agnes Akre. Allan was the older brother to Helena Anderson and Lorraine Akre. They lived in a farmhouse east of Bodo. In 1944 the family moved to grandpa and grandma Syverson's farm after they had retired (his mother's parents' home). Allan left school early and as a young man, he went to Edmonton and took a welding course, became a cab driver, and then adventured north to work with an oil company. After these experiences he decided it was better to be his own boss and that farming was the best life for him. On February 20, 1960, he married Jean Kadilak. Allan and Jean lived in Provost until they purchased their own land where they lived and farmed. Their first child Laurie was born in 1963, followed by Darren in 1966 and finally Brian in 1968. In 1973 the family moved to the family farm when Alvin and Agnes moved into Provost. During Allan’s many farming years he and his family were hosts for the International Agricultural Exchange Association and hosted and mentored many young men and women over the years. He was involved with Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting/fishing. He also enjoyed travelling, snowmobiling, curling, playing cards, and visiting with friends and family. Allan had many hobbies as well such as stamp collecting, coin collecting and photography. In 1990, Allan and Jean moved into Provost. Nine years later after 39 years of marriage, Allan lost his wife Jean. Allan continued farming in Bodo and his son Brian would help his father with the farming and chores over the years. In 2006 Allan met Sybil Giles and they started dating in June of 2007. Allan and Sybil were married in December of 2008. They settled in Penticton BC in 2012. They enjoyed numerous holidays and trips over the years. Allan passed away surrounded by family on April 30, 2022, at the Penticton General Hospital in Penticton, BC at the age of 86 years. Allan will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Sybil Akre; daughter, Laurie (Dave); granddaughters, Janelle and Shayna (Taydo); stepdaughter, Paula (Eric) Lindquist; and step-grandchildren, Matthew and Leah. He also leaves behind his sister, Helena; sister in law, Vicky Kadilak; niece, Debbie McGetrick; grandnieces, Jenny and Trish; along with many other relatives and friends.
