Obituary of Purvis James Paulgaard

Purvis J. Paulgaard was born July 19, 1937, the youngest son of Blanche & Knut Paulgaard. He passed away peacefully on December 24, 2012 at the Provost Health Centre at the age of 75 years. Purvis attended Bellville & Bodo Schools and went on to graduate from the Camrose Lutheran College in 1955. From there, Purvis met and eventually married Dawn Hager on June 14, 1958 and they would go on to have five children to complete their family. Purvis had a passion for farming and ranching. He also took a special pride in gardening, especially his trees & prize potatoes. Faith & community were very important to Purvis as well as his Norwegian heritage. He served on church council, the hospital board and a couple of boards relative to the cattle industry. In 1990, Purvis & Dawn became snow birds, enjoying over 20 winters in the Arizona Sun, where he made a lot of very good friends. Purvis loved to travel and meet new people, especially his relatives in Norway. In 1997, due to ill health, Purvis rented out his land but was still very interested in what was happening. In stepping back from his commitment to farming, Purvis spent time on his stock portfolios and invested a lot of his time into being his own stock broker. Over the past year Purvis struggled with considerable health concerns. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his reason for getting up in the morning and enduring and fighting another battle. Both Purvis & his entire family enjoyed the many good times had together throughout his life, but especially cherish time spent this past summer & fall as a family. We will miss Purvis but know he is at peace with Jesus, getting the best Christmas of all. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Dawn; children, James (Susan), Kathryn (Darrell) Braun; Lavon (Lloyd) Pelton, Neil (Kelly) and Stephen (Karen); grandchildren, Brandon, Morgan, Logan, John, Rebekah, Leah, Ben, Emilie (Justin), Jarvis (Kim), Dalton, Lindsay (Cory), Haley, Nicole, Pamela, Scott, Randy, Justin, Travis, Levi and Sara; great grandchildren, Annaliese, Anthony, Jacob and Keith; sister in law, Eleanor; as well as many other relatives and friends. Purvis was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Gordon (Gladys) and Ken; and parents in law, Robert & Wanda Hager.
