Obituary of Evelyn Ayrey

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Evelyn Marie Ayrey (Rolin) was born on October 5, 1929 in a house at D’Arcy, Saskatchewan, weighing 3 pounds, necessitating incubation on a wood stove oven. She was the first born to Julius and Anna Rolin, followed by Ida in 1931 and Kai in 1934.

Ev started school in D’Arcy. She spoke fluent Danish and not a word of English. Ev was sent home for a year to learn English before she could return to school. She was 14 when they moved north to Senlac, back to the original homestead and completed her high school in Senlac.

Aldy and Ev married in 1952 and lived with the Rolins for a couple of years before moving to the Ayrey homestead and eventually moving to the Ford Farm at Evesham in 1960.

Ev was always busy as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and community member. She wore many hats: teacher, caregiver, gardener, chore doer, farmer, cook, baker, sewer, and organizer; for which we all loved her and are grateful for.

Ev passed away on July 9, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Macklin, Saskatchewan at the age of 92 years.

Ev will be sadly missed by her family, Bill (Wendy), Laura (Irvin), Patricia (Brent), Sandra (Randy), and Norma; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Ida; brother, Kai (Cecile); as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Alderson (Aldy)Ayrey; brothers in law, Lyle Ayrey and Percy Waldner; sister in law, Theresa Ayrey.

Family and friends are encouraged to gather for a celebration of Ev’s life will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Senlac Community Hall with Doug & Becky Middleton officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Senlac Cemetery.
