Obituary of Franklin Donald Curtiss
Please share a memory of Franklin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Franklin Donald Curtiss was born March 24, 1925 near Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Michael and Mary Wertepney, eldest son and child of hard working farmers/ ranchers north of Winnipeg. Franklin peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of January 23, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
Franklin was taught work ethics from spending time with his father prior to enlisting. Once a war-time army veteran, Franklin became a licensed Journeyman Mechanic and was self-employed as a service (gas) station operator for many years in Southern Alberta. He also spent time as a tire salesman and tire recycler in the retread business until the work became too hard for little profit. Franklin then turned to auctioneering and antique furniture with his second wife before retiring to a life of gardening and travelling.
Much later, Franklin landed at the Hillcrest Lodge when his health failed and he could no longer manage his home and garden, for which both he and his family are eternally grateful.
Franklin is survived by, and will be lovingly remembered by; one son, David (Dorothy); two daughters, Margaret (Keith) and Elizabeth (Brian); six grandsons, Tony, Ricky, Robbie, Jason, Matthew and David; one granddaughter, Jennifer; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Laurel of South Surrey B.C.; two nephews, Clyde and Douglas; and one niece, Debra; as well as many neighbors.
He was predeceased by two wives, Kathleen and Mary; both parents, Mary and Michael; a sister, Helen and a brother William, both younger.
